EXEP3D – Concrete Printing for the Future

Representatives of TTK’s Institute of Civil Engineering visited the 3D printing laboratory of Eindhoven University of Technology.

Aivars Alt, Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Civil Engineering of Tallinn University of Applied Sciences (TTK), and laboratory engineer Gustav Gerretz visited Eindhoven University of Technology and its 3D printing laboratory to gain new knowledge and experience in 3D printing, ABB robot control, and programming, in preparation for launching a new laboratory at TTK.

The focus was on acquiring fundamental knowledge of robot programming and control, followed by test prints and hands-on practice, including the printing of elements related to potential future research directions. The joint activities with the partner university ensured confidence that TTK’s new laboratory will be ready for launch in May.

Valuable insights were also gained regarding laboratory workflows and the practical use and implementation of ABB robots and MAI pumps.

In April, laboratory equipment similar to that in Eindhoven will be installed at TTK, with practical testing to begin in May. In June, researchers from Eindhoven University will visit TTK’s laboratory. In April, Aivars Alt and Hillar Joon from the Institute of Civil Engineering will visit Dresden University of Technology, the project’s second cooperation partner.

The visit took place within the framework of the European research cooperation project EXEP3D (“Widening participation and spreading excellence in the field of extrusion-based 3D concrete printing”), and such joint visits are essential for the project’s successful continuation over the next two years.
